Kitchen Remodel

We have finally finished a pretty big kitchen remodel! We did it mostly by ourselves, with a little help from Randy's dad and our friend Steve. I was so sad that we forgot to take some "before" pictures before we got started - so here are some that we found from the files. :)
Ugly brown cabinets, white countertops. Ugly scroll pattern on the cabinet doors.

And here are the "after" pictures! We started this project in October - and finally had everything finished up before Kendall's birthday party at the beginning of February.
The first thing we did was take the cabinet doors off and add a new facade - Randy bought plywood and cut and glued it onto the door in strips. We found the idea on a home renovation blog - I think it's called "Shaker Style" and the total cost was the $18 in wood!! This covered up the scrolling pattern without having to build new cabinets!
The next step was to paint the cabinets. Not the most fun we've ever had. Lots of coats, and lots of time. But we love the way they look! We ordered new hardware from Amazon - only spent $45 total for all of it! I highly recommend checking Amazon if you are looking for new hardware. Our pulls were $2 and our knobs were $1! These can be so expensive!
Then Steve helped Randy take the counters out and put new ones in, then put on new formica. We got a new sink and new faucet and I love them! We added a new backsplash - it's plastic but looks like the pressed tin that is really popular now. It's hard to tell in these pictures, but it's kind of a brushed bronze color to match the faucet. We like the different look!
The last step was to lay the formica on the bar. We had to wait to do that until we had done the backsplash. We just love our new kitchen!! It really brightens up the room and updated the house. Oh - my favorite part I think is the under-counter lighting. I always thought this would be something that would be way out of our price range, but would love to have more light when we're working on the counters. Mike told us we could get a kit at Lowes for about $30, and he installed them easily and I love them so much!!
