January has come and gone and it's February now! We had a full month, with not a whole lot of time for posting on the blog, so I'm going to catch up here over the next few days.
Randy left on the 1st for Cambodia, and a couple of days after he left Cooper and I came down with the flu! It was awful. She and I both started running fever on Saturday, the 3rd, and it spiked really high for both of us early Sunday morning. I realized I was going to have to take all 4 of us to Urgent Care that morning, and I couldn't really have anyone help because I was afraid of passing our germs on to anyone else. Cooper didn't really have any other symptoms except the fever, but Calli and Kendall were both coughing pretty bad. We survived going to Urgent Care, but I felt awful and it was not easy. The doctor swabbed me for the flu and it came back positive, so she gave us four perscriptions of Tamiflu. We came home, Kathy Pick went and got our medicine, Mary brought over tons of groceries, Debbie brought soups for lunch, and Kathy took Kendall and Calli home with her for the day so Cooper and I could rest. We didn't know we needed to have food on our stomach with the medicine, so both of us started throwing up that afternoon, which was not fun at all to take care of by myself. It was kind of awful. My mom started working on getting a sub, went to school Monday morning to see her kids, and then left at lunch to come down to take care of us. She stayed until Thursday and I was so very thankful. I don't remember ever having the flu before and it was terrible! Thankfully, with mom here, I was able to rest while she took care of Cooper, me, and the girls. This is what our kitchen counter looked like for a few days.
Mary brought over presents for the girls from Sarah and Caleb. Each girl got a bag full of "treasures" Sarah and Caleb had found for them at their house. This was Sunday night before Mom was there, and the girls and I were all piled on my bed (while the sheets were being washed....again), and it was like Christmas morning watching them open their gifts. It brought some much needed smiles!
Popsicles make everything better!
Randy hated not being able to take care of us. Monday morning he sent me these flowers! So pretty and thoughtful. I loved having them to look at while I felt so bad.
Other than being so sick, January was full of lots of days at home playing with our new Christmas presents! Cooper got more GoldiBlox to add to her set, and we had fun building with those together. This is Nacho's doghouse.
Coop got an award at school one day for her awesome cutting skills! So proud.
Kendall decided awhile back that she wanted to save up for a keyboard and possibly take piano lessons soon. She has done such a good job of saving any money she got for months now, and not spending it. She wanted to buy a keyboard. Greg and Kathy found out and said they had one to give her, but we wanted her to buy it because she had been working so hard to save her money. We counted and she had $28. She called Kathy and said "Do you have a keyboard I can buy?" Kathy told her she did, and Kendall said, "how much does it cost?" We had worked it out ahead of time, and Kathy told her it was $20 and that she even had a stand that was $2. She asked Kendall if she had that much money, and I wish I had it on video when Kendall realized that she did have that much money, and that she would even have some leftover. Priceless. She was so, so excited. She wanted to go over that night to buy her keyboard. We were able to put her off until the next day, but not any past that. We went to their house and Kendall gave Kathy her money and got some instructions on the keyboard. It was so sweet and I was so proud of how she waited so long for something she wanted so bad. We've had lots of wonderful concerts since then.
Cooper got an ant farm for Christmas, we sent off in the mail for her ants, and they finally came! We have all had a lot of fun watching them build their tunnels, but not quite as much fun as these two have had. They love watching them and I love seeing that little hand around Randy's neck.
Most days in January were pretty cold and rainy, but we had a few days where we were able to play outside. Calli asked for a picnic for lunch one day so we enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine.
The last day of school for the girls in January was pajama day! There was even snow and snow day activities and they had a pajama party with their friends. So thankful for their awesome school!
Kendall celebrated MLK Jr at her school, and I love this activity they did. Her dream for her community was "no more fighting," her dream for the world was "to make the world a better place," and her dream for herself was to be a "horse rider" when she grows up. So cute!
On the 30th, all three girls had dentist appointments. They all had x-rays, all had cleanings, and were all seen by the dentist on this visit. This was Calli and Cooper's first time to have x-rays and they were so brave! Calli was super interested in watching the other girls get their teeth cleaned and she did so well herself! We were proud of all 3 of them - this was the easiest visit we have ever had. We love our dentist office. And....no cavities! Yay!
These days with these sweet girls are just the best. Not every day is super exciting, but we love seeing what adventures we can have each day, even if it's just staying home and having a lazy day playing together. They are growing up so fast and we just want to soak up every minute!
