Last Sunday was our last Sunday on Dixie Drive in our "temporary" building. Brazos Pointe started in 2001 meeting at Lake Jackson Intermediate School. Each week they had to load and unload the trailer with all the furniture and equipment needed for the services and for the children's areas. It was a lot of work. Randy has said before that he is a little glad we weren't here then but also a little sad. Everyone served and it took a crew to pull off the weekend services.
Then 4 years later they moved into this space the church bought on Dixie. It was an old retail center and they had to do a lot to get it ready, but for 8 years it has been our home. When Randy and I moved here at the end of 2007, they had already bought land out on 332 on the way to Brazoria to eventually build on, but knew the timing wasn't right, so they decided to do a little renovation to the Dixie property so we could stay in it a little longer. In 2008, we were ready to begin the capital campaign to start the building process, but all of leadership team knew it still wasn't the right timing. Then the economy started declining, Hurricane Ike hit, and we saw why God was having us wait to focus on the new building.
Fast forward to 2010. We knew it was time. We were outgrowing the space on Dixie and needed to begin building. Now the new building is finally finished out on the gorgeous property on 332 and we are having our first Sunday there this week...in 2 days! We are so excited and can't wait to see the work that God does in our new home. Randy and the staff have all been working so hard to have everything ready and it's so exciting that it's finally here.
Sunday was a little emotional and sentimental, looking back at all God has done on Dixie Drive. The church isn't changing, because we know the church is made up of people. But Randy and I talked about how we would feel if we moved out of the house we live in now - the house we've brought all three of our girls home to, and the house we have so many memories in - and how it would be a little sad to leave for the last time, even when we would be excited to move into a new house. Dixie has been our church's "house" for the last 8 years and when we walk in there and see that stage and walk through the children's area, we have a lot of good memories. We dedicated all three girls on that stage. Randy has preached so many times there, and grown so much as a speaker. I even have been able to preach three times and love the memories I have of doing that! Our girls have traveled through each of the Sunshine Park rooms and known such sweet people who have taken such good care of them. I have memories of serving in Sunshine Park, in All Stars, at the Welcome Center, and of serving the Lord's Supper with Randy. We have had 5 Servolution rallies in the worship room, where all the chairs are cleared and hundreds of church members are sent out to serve all around our cities. We have been challenged as individuals and as a family to take next steps. We have made such sweet friendships there, and have cried through "last" services with friends that have moved to Galveston or Okinawa to serve God there. We have prayed big prayers in that room and seen God move in big ways. We are thankful for what we've seen Him do and even more excited to see what the future has.
Greg and Randy preached the message together on Sunday, recounting the lessons we've learned on Dixie. It was such a sweet time and our hearts were full. And now we are ready for this Sunday! Can't wait to see our family in our new house and have room to welcome new families in. Thank you God for our church!!
