We had such a fun Easter weekend! We were super excited that Pops, Kiki, and Great Granny came down to spend the weekend with us. It was so great to hang out, and we had a full weekend packed with lots of fun!
Since Kendall was out of school on Friday, we decided to meet them in Houston at the zoo. Along with a TON of other people! It was super crowded trying to actually get in the parking lot, but once we were in, it wasn't too bad. The girls have been looking forward to going for awhile, and they were excited to see the animals with Pops and Kiki! It was an absolutely beautiful day, and we had a great time just being outside and walking around. We are zoo members, so we get their little magazine every few months. Kendall had read about the new baby giraffe that was born, and she wanted to make sure to see it because it was born on her birthday, February 4th! That's the baby laying down in the picture behind her. He was so cute!
We were able to rent a wheelchair and just push Granny around all afternoon so she wouldn't have to walk as much. It was perfect! She even had some buddies join her every once in awhile. :)
The next morning, we met for breakfast at one of our favorite breakfast spots in LJ, Asiels. The girls love getting chocolate chip pancakes here!
That afternoon, we spent some time climbing trees and jumping on the trampoline!
Later in the afternoon, we had our annual crawfish boil to go to, so Pops, Kiki, and Great Granny took the girls to Alvin to the strawberry farm! Every time we've gone, Kendall has said, "Pops would love this!" So they had to go!
We cooked dinner at home that night, opened all the girls' Easter baskets from their grandparents, and dyed eggs!
Sunday morning, after a great day at church, we came home for lunch and Randy and I gave the girls their Easter presents from us. We have never made a huge deal about the Easter bunny coming - we don't put the girls' baskets out in front of their doors in the morning because Randy is always already at church when they wake up so he wouldn't get to be there when they opened them, and honestly they have kind of been freaked out by the Easter bunny in the past. So we just give them presents from us, and don't make much mention of the Easter bunny. This year the girls got new sandals, some clothes, little Easter chicks, bubble bath, and FROZEN!! They were so excited about that. They've been asking for it since they found out it was on DVD, so it was fun to wait and give it to them.
Pops and Kiki got them their new Easter baskets!! I love them so much - they have their names on them, so no arguing over whose is whose, and they are so big and pretty!
Pops and Kiki hid the hard boiled eggs we dyed in the backyard and then we set them free to go hunt! So much fun!!
We had them line up to take a picture after all the eggs were found, but Cooper was a little sad because Kendall found the very last egg.
I love my family!!
Pops, Kiki, and Great Granny had to get on the road after that, so we put everyone down for a good nap! It was a busy weekend and everyone was tired! We weren't done celebrating, though, because we still had dinner plans that night at Mary's parents, the Evans'! We met friends there for dinner, and then we let the kids hunt eggs in the front yard! It was fun to be able to celebrate Easter with our LJ friends, too! And I loved getting to hold sweet Savannah and watching Kendall and Cooper get to hold her!
And, one more family picture. :)
It was a busy weekend, but it was packed full of fun and we loved every minute! It was great to have my Dad and Lisa and Granny here with us. We also loved getting to have more conversations with the girls about why we celebrate Easter and why it is important to us as Christ followers. Kendall is still asking lots of questions and we love watching her be curious. On the way to church Sunday, she asked me which holiday was more important - Christmas or Easter? Pretty deep questions for a 6 year old! We are praying for the day that the girls will make the choice to step over the line of faith and become Christ followers, just like I did on an Easter Sunday when I was 7 years old!
