Grumpy Kendall. We should have turned right around and gotten back in the car!
When we got over to the park though, we saw some friends, including Kendall's best friend Connor from school! She was getting a little nervous about all the people and was really pretty upset. Connor was so sweet - he told Kendall he would walk out there with her and that it really wasn't very scary. None of that was working. He even tried to make funny faces to make her smile. Sweet boy!
Pitiful! Can you believe we're about to let her hunt eggs?!
About ten minutes before the hunt was going to start, Kendall just started crying so hard. Like wailing and gnashing of teeth crying. I'm sure people were like, what in the world?! She was so upset because she really wanted to hunt but she was just so scared about running out in the field with all the other kids. I kept telling her she didn't have to do it - this just made her more upset and cry harder. Sweet girl. This is just not her thing. Crowds, chaos, having to be by herself. Not good. So I just picked her up and walked over to Cooper's area to check on her and Randy.
They weren't having a much better time! By this time the hunt had started and Randy went out with Cooper (parents can go with that age group - not Kendall's). They saw three eggs together, went to them, and Cooper would NOT put them in her basket. Randy said, "Cooper, do you want these eggs?" Cooper nodded. "Ok, then put them in your basket." She shook her head no. "Cooper, if you want them, put them in your basket." No. She pointed at Randy, wanting him to do it. He said, "No Cooper - if you want them, you are going to have to pick them up." Nope - not happening.
SO, with Cooper not picking up eggs and Kendall wailing, we made our way back to the car. Epic fail. Next year I believe we will skip the city egg hunt. Wah wahhhhh. :)
David & I laughed out loud reading this. I'm pretty sure we're only allowed to do that because we can TOTALLY relate. Oh man. At least we're not in this alone right??
ReplyDeleteHaha! Love it Amy! Thankful for friends who understand. Holy moly that was awful. Why do we do such mean things to our kids like take them to big parks where there are eggs full of candy, free for the taking!? There must be something wrong with us....
